Jeanne L. Murray, Senior Associate
Communications and Marketing Director
Jeanne Murray is a marketing and branding consultant and works with clients on campaign messaging, case statements, impact reports and communications and marketing plans. She joined moss+ross in 2013 after a career in software development and marketing with IBM in Research Triangle Park, N.C, where her focus was in global marketing, messaging and client engagement. Recent clients include UNC Chapel Hill (including Schools of Law, Education, and Business), Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, The Feagin Center for Leadership, Emily K Center, Durham Technical Community College, North Carolina School of Science and Math, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Cary, and Healing Transitions of Raleigh. For four years, Jeanne served as the part-time interim marketing director at SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals, where the organization has won several industry awards for its communications.
Jeanne specializes in helping clients tell stories that connect their mission with people who care about it. Whether told through marketing collateral, board communications, web media or other methods, the stories that inspire action from donors and the community need to be simple and compelling. Jeanne earned a certificate in nonprofit management at Duke University, focusing her experience building global corporate marketing programs more specifically on strategic marketing and campaign management for moss+ross clients.
In her career with the IBM Software division, Jeanne created and led new programs to implement digital marketing campaigns, online learning programs and market development projects. She was an early pioneer in using the web and social media to reach worldwide audiences, deliver audience-based marketing tactics and foster online community engagement. She led teams to scale program execution worldwide, to include India, China, Europe, Australia and Japan. Jeanne’s expertise in strategic planning, audience analysis and program management produced award-winning and industry-leading programs.
Earlier in her career with IBM, Jeanne was a software engineer and business analyst for IBM software development projects. Prior to joining IBM, she was a Senior Consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton in Washington, DC.
Jeanne is a long-time volunteer in the Durham community, currently serving on the board at Families Moving Forward and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and other local organizations. She has a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University (2014), a Master of Education in Instructional Design from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education (1992) and a BA in Communications from the University of Delaware (1984).
Jeanne and her husband Brian have lived in Durham over 25 years. Brian is Director of the Duke Energy Initiative at Duke University. Their daughter Claire graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and resides in Atlanta, and their son Evan is a Duke Medical student. Jeanne enjoys distance running, tennis and traveling, especially to visit her large extended family.
