Strategic development consulting for the nonprofit community

Who we are

When Mary Moss and Susan Ross collaborated to form moss+ross in 2009, they did so out of a deep desire to continue to serve nonprofit organizations in the place they have called home for work and family their whole lives.

Along with Mary and Susan, a select team of experienced associates have delivered highly tailored development and fundraising consultant services to many organizations in the Triangle and surrounding area.

We have worked with colleges, universities, independent schools, churches, museums, social service providers, and performing arts and fine arts organizations.

We invite you to tap into the moss+ross knowledge base and network.

Mary Moss

She manages the executive search work for moss+ross, and also specializes in development assessments, campaign feasibility studies and management, and volunteer training.

Her fundraising career spanned nearly three decades at Duke University and three prominent Research Triangle schools where she was known as one of North Carolina’s leading independent school fundraisers. She stepped down in 2008 as associate head for institutional advancement at Saint Mary’s School, her high school alma mater, with responsibility for development, alumnae relations, and admissions. Prior to that, she was director of development at Ravenscroft School for 11 years and at Durham Academy for nearly five years.

She is the President-elect of the Rotary Club of Raleigh and was the Chair of its 100th Anniversary Steering Committee. She is an active volunteer with the Raleigh Fine Arts Society, having chaired the Grants Committee. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New Voices Foundation. In addition, she has been a volunteer consultant with numerous schools and nonprofits including the Junior League of Raleigh, Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, and other organizations. Her most recent role was assistant vice president for financial aid development, where she led a staff and volunteer team which raised $308 million for student scholarship endowments university-wide from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, she was associate athletics director and director of athletics development, associate dean and director of development for arts and sciences and director of the Duke Annual Fund during a time which spanned two major campaigns, four presidencies, and many changes on campus.
